Activating A Web Server In Windows Vista

  1. Open the "Computer" link and click the "Uninstall or change a program" link.

  1. Click the "Turn Windows features on or off" link

  1. Check the "Internet Information Services" option and click "OK"

  1. Click back to the "Control Panel", follow the "Administrative Tools" link, then follow the "Internet Information Services" link

  1. On the left of the window, expand the options until you see "Default Web Site" and select it. Now click the "Basic Settings" link on the right window pane. A dialog box will pop up. Change only the "Physical Path" option and set that to the main directory where all your files you will access for webElect.net are stored and click "OK".

  1. Click the "Directory Browsing" link...

  1. ...and click "Enable". You can now close this window.

  1. Return to the "Administrative Tools" window and select "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" link

  1. Click the "Inbound Rules" option in the left window pane and then enable "World Wide Web Services" option at the very bottom of the list.

  1. Now open a web browser and enter http://localhost as the address. If this shows you a list of the directory where your files are stored, goto another computer on your network and try the address http://computerName where computerName is the name your webserver computer uses to identify itself on the network.
